International Conference on Recent Developments and Innovations in Geotechnics & High-Rise Structures
16th,17th,18th May 2017 - Marriott Hotel Al Jaddaf, Dubai |
|
The
recent years have seen tremendous advances in Structural and Geotechnical
Engineering disciplines, especially in the Middle East. Structures such as the
Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Metro and Kingdom Tower
(Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) have pushed the envelope like never before. As such, it
becomes imperative for practicing engineers and academia to be up to speed with
all the latest developments in the engineering fields. This conference will focus on new advances & innovation Design in Structural and Geotechical Engineering principles and practices |

Workshop Agenda
The aim of the workshop is to work towards adoption of a methodology that will allow the effects of the base of the structure (essentially a very large pile cap) to be included in the assessment of the foundation design. This would allow more economical foundations to be designed.
The workshop will begin with a presentation from Professor Harry Poulos, describing the basic principles of the design of piles and pile groups, and in particular considering the interaction between the piles in a group. He will then extend this to consider the interaction between a pile group and a foundation raft. He will discuss the concepts involved and in particular the relationship between SLS design and ULS design.
Professor Katzenbach will present and discuss the existing ISSMGE guidelines to CPRF, Principle of design and optimizations, case studies related to CPRF, CPRF step by step design |

The ICD Brookfield development will comprise a 290m tall tower with a 7-level basement (the deepest basement in Dubai). A 5-level basement was previously constructed on the sitealong with all the foundation piles. The basement was later backfilled when construction ceased in 2009.
Challenges of this development included the deepening of the basement, the construction of new deeper temporary retaining walls, pile re-use and construction in close proximity to adjacent structures. In addition, this is the first construction in Dubai where removable anchors have been used. |
